I’ve often heard the phrase, “Count your blessings” and never gave it much thought. It’s usually uttered by someone who is trying to console a friend or family member that has experienced some misfortune. This might actually be some good advice. Counting your blessings is no different than expressing gratitude for what you consider fortunate.
When we begin to list out the things that we are grateful for, we notice that there is so much more than we would’ve guessed. Today’s Daily Smile is simply a gratitude list. In 120 seconds, I’m going to list as many things that I can think of, that I’m grateful or fortunate to have. See how many you can list in that time.
My Two-Minute Gratitude List:
- My son
- My parents
- My health
- My friends
- My talents
- The sunshine
- Fresh foods
- Being independent
- Music
- New experiences
- Good conversation
- Laughter
- Teachers
- Kindness
You may have more on your list, or you might have less. Either way is fine. What I’ve noticed is that the first items on your list are the most obvious and come easily. After that, you really have to think about it. Some of the things you put down might even surprise you. Reading through my own list, I realize that new experiences are important to me, and that I could be doing more. Starting tomorrow, I’m going to be on the look out for new recipes to try, new restaurants, new music, and any other experience that can help me grow.
Now that’s something to smile about.
